Portfolio Review

Recently we were lucky enough to receive portfolio reviews from current practitioners in the creative industry, including freelancers, product photographers, retouchers, a newspaper editor and an events coordinator. In order to develop my work and gain feedback from practitioners who work in a similar way to me, or are in currently in roles in the industry which interest me for my future goals, I decided to speak to Freelancers Maya sharp and Thomas Duffield.

My choices for Thomas Duffield was due to his methods of creating conceptual art which is then edited and sequenced and formed into a book or a final exhibition, this is something I wanted to learn more about and gain feedback regarding how I could present my project as a book or an exhibition. I also chose Maya Sharp due to her knowledge of being a freelancer, and also to learn how to develop skills surrounding adaptability and problem solving in order to become more knowledgeable and to start thinking about what is required from a productive freelance photographer.

The portfolio reviews were intensely advantageous as they allowed me to receive vital feedback just before final submissions, meaning I had enough time to slightly alter things, specifically advice towards what prints I could use for the final exhibition. Overall, the portfolio reviews were very helpful as it imitated what these reviews would feel like after leaving university and also thinking about how to be well prepared for future portfolio reviews.
