Craig Easton

Craig Easton recently delivered a lecture explaining his practice and particular projects that he has developed in order to present his style of photography. Craig started off working within a newspaper but began to get bored of working within newspapers as he expressed how he didn’t enjoy the way that the stories were documented through single images, he wanted to leave this way of working in order to gain more freedom regarding his storytelling.

Craig decided to document the underclasses groups of Britain and be able to not only tell their story but also tell a story of their lives through sequenced images. Craig developed the project through photographing the families for 6 years in order to show a sense of how their experience was effected by government policy.

Overall, Craig’s discussions surrounding the working-class and the way in which he created a platform for their stories to be told rather than being ignored as they have for many generations, was very interesting and expressed how story telling elements of photography can be brought into a large range of stories. This was helpful to me as I have grown to love creating a sequence of images that have this story telling element imbedded, whilst using my cinematic style to elevate the imagery.
